Environmental Litigation

When environmental cases go to trial, the evidence that wins is the evidence a jury can see and understand. Earth Volumetric Studio transforms complex geologic and contaminant data into defensible, data-driven 3D models and animations that communicate clearly to judges, juries, and the public, giving your legal team a decisive advantage.

Your Competitive Edge in the Courtroom

In an era where 3D models are commonplace on screens everywhere, presenting complex geochemistry data with flat graphs and charts is no longer enough. You need defensible models with the realism to win the jury’s minds and the statistical foundation to stand up to rigorous cross-examination.

Persuade Judges & Juries — 3D animations and volumetric models tell a story that flat charts cannot. Show how contaminants migrated through geologic layers, across property boundaries, and into water supplies, in a format any juror can understand.

Withstand Cross-Examination — Every model is built on geostatistical analysis and sound science. Kriging-based interpolation, uncertainty quantification, and defensible methodology ensure your visualizations hold up under expert scrutiny.

Animate the Evidence — Create dynamic animations showing contaminant migration over time, historic changes to shorelines and land use, and the progression of environmental damage. Powerful storytelling tools for any courtroom.

Multi-Format Delivery — Present your case through interactive 3D models, animations, 3D printed physical models, and publication-quality images. Integrate aerial photography, CAD infrastructure, geologic data, and contaminant plumes into a single compelling narrative.

$16 Million Award for the City of Newburgh

First Environment Inc. used C Tech's software to model geology, coal tar contamination, and historic shoreline changes at a former manufactured gas plant site in Newburgh, New York, adjacent to the Hudson River. Three distinct 3D models, incorporating boring data, historic aerial photographs, NOAA and USGS records, were translated into dynamic animations that told a story easily understood by the jury. The animations supported expert testimony illustrating how coal tar migrated through permeable soil layers between the former plant and city property. The jury found the utility responsible for $16 million in cleanup costs.

"B. Tod Delaney was a key witness at the trial, and First Environment developed a number of trial exhibits, including an extremely effective computer-based graphic presentation (EVS model) that enabled the jury to visualize how wastes were migrating onto and across the City's property and into the Hudson River. Significantly, the jury asked to see this presentation a second time in its deliberations. First Environment's work was crucial to our success in obtaining a $16M jury verdict…"

From Superfund Sites to Corner Gas Stations

Studio builds compelling 3D litigation models at every scale, from major contamination sites with hundreds of borings to small properties with as few as seven. Aerial photography, CAD drawings, geologic layers, and contaminant data are combined into a single integrated model that communicates the full story of a site.
